Nanih Waiya Wildlife Management AreaLast Updated: 05/11/2010

This WMA consists of numerous oxbow lakes, old river runs, cypress-tupelo sloughs, natural lakes, and marshes created by beaver activity. Large cypress and tupelo gum trees arch over some reaches of the canoe trail, leaving the impression that one is visiting one of nature's cathedrals. Along the trail, visitors can see minks, prothonotary warblers, beavers, otters, or heron rookeries. Since land access is limited, wildlife viewing must occur primarily by boat.
